USDA expected to release GMO labeling rules soon

Labeling rules required by National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Law.

USDA is expected to release is GMO labeling rules in the next several days or weeks, according to the National Law Review.

The labeling rules are required by the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Law, which was passed and signed by President Obama in summer 2016.

The law requires the Agricultural Marketing Service to develop a national mandatory labeling system to indicate the presence of bioengineering material.

USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service sought public input on the establishment of the standard in June 2017. It received more than 112,000 responses

The Food and Drug Administration is also pressing ahead with label initiatives and the House of Representatives passed the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act

USDA may require electronic or digital disclosure so as to meet its statuary obligation while not alarming consumers.
