University of Tennessee to hold Fall Production Conference in Jackson

The University of Tennessee’s West Tennessee AgResearch Center will hold a Fall Crop Production Conference at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson, Sept. 3.

Farmers will be able to get a first-hand look at new cotton varieties, fertility management, irrigation, defoliation, new technologies and the latest IPM methods for insect, weed and disease management during the Cotton Production Tour that will begin at 8:30 in the main parking lot.

The cotton tour will be followed by lunch and a Wheat Production Conference that will begin at 1 p.m. The Conference will cover the latest practices for wheat production including seed treatments, weed control, Hessian fly, insect and disease management, planting date and fertility management.

Among the speakers for the two conferences will be Owen Gwathmey, Chris Main, Don Tyler, Bob Williams and Frank Yin, agronomists; Scott Stewart, entomologist; Melvin Newman, plant pathologist; Larry Steckel, weed scientist; Brian Leib, irrigation specialist; and Chuck Danehower, Extension farm management specialist.
