Closer the water sources the better in recharge strategies: Part III

One possible strategy for recharge of the Mississippi River Alluvial Aquifer could be found in a current system where water is being pumped from along the Mississippi River over to the Sunflower River in Coahoma County to help maintain minimum stream flows in the latter.

The USDA-ARS’ James Rigby says having the water source close to the point being recharged is important because most of the expense is in the pipeline. He discussed the strategy in a presentation at the 2016 Mississippi Water Resources Conference in Jackson.
