Senate passes conference report, 64-35

With farmers in many parts of the country in the fields and planting their 2002 crops, the Senate finally acted on the report, which will provide much-needed economic assistance after four years of low commodity prices.

USDA officials said they will begin implementing some provisions of the new farm bill as quickly ass possible after the president signs the bill. One of the first actions by county Farm Service agencies will be allowing producers to update their acreage bases.
