Select herbicide ranks top for cotton, soybean growers

Select Herbicide has once again achieved the No. 1 spot in customer demand for cotton, soybean, sugarbeet and sunflower growers, according to Doane ag data. 2004 marks the fifth year Select has emerged as the No. 1 grass herbicide for cotton, soybeans and sugarbeets and the second year it has been named No. 1 for sunflower growers.

A broad spectrum grass herbicide, Select provides superior performance on nearly every grassy weed in almost every broadleaf crop. Select, marketed by Valent U.S.A. Corp., has the power to control tough annual and perennial grasses at heights equal to or greater than competing herbicides. Valent product development manager John Pawlak said Select provides the broadest spectrum of control available on the market.

“There are no holes with Select,” he said. “Select is the least antagonistic grass herbicide to postemergence broadleaf herbicides, and when it is tank-mixed with a broadleaf herbicide, Select is nearly unstoppable.”

Select's consistent weed control on grasses — both perennial and annual — is its No. 1 benefit, said Mariam Worsham, Select product manager.

“Select is more consistent than competitive grass herbicides and provides growers with the performance they expect from a No. 1 product,” Worsham said.

Pawlak added that Select poses few risks of crop injury and has no soil carryover.
