U.S. rice heading below average

The percentage of rice headed is ahead of last year in Arkansas and Texas, but behind last year in the other major rice-producing states, USDA reported Monday in its Crop Progress Report.

Heading in the six states is 9 percentage points below the five-year average. The crop condition is virtually unchanged from last week, with 62 percent of the current crop rated in good or excellent condition.
