Raising taxes on Louisiana agriculture a losing proposition

Emotions were still a bit raw when Dr. Mike Strain spoke to a general session of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Thursday (June 24). The Louisiana Legislature had just finished 19 weeks of special and regular sessions aimed at addressing budget shortfalls of up to $2.1 billion  the night before. Dr. Strain, LFB leaders and senators, including Brett Allain, R-Jeanerette, argued increasing taxes on agriculture would cost the Louisiana economy more than the revenue it would generate in meetings throughout the session.
