Worker safety still primary goal of WPS regulations

Specialists such as the LSU Ag Center's Kim Pope Brown are helping farmers and consultants learn the ins and outs of the new Worker Protection Standard rules.

EPA made significant changes to the Worker Protection Standard, the set of regulations that governs the training and equipping of farm workers and pesticide handlers, in 2015.

Now specialists like Kim Pope Brown, pesticide safety education coordinator with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service and the LSU AgCenter, are spreading the word to organizations such as the Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association.

In an interview, she talked about the “take-home” message she’s giving consultants and farmers all over the state during presentations such as the one at the Louisiana Agricultural Technology and Management Conference in Marksville.
