Mississippi elevator operation update

Mississippi elevator status update.

On Friday (May 13), Delta Council forwarded the following report from Mississippi State Extension Service regarding elevator status and receipt of the 2011 wheat crop. It reads:

  • Delta Rice Services will be taking wheat -- Jimbo Burkhalter, MSU Extension agent.
  • Farmers Grain in Greenwood and Belzoni will be receiving grain as normal. Farmers Grain in Belzoni will be delayed on shipping out due to not enough clearance between the water and loadout spout per Bud Tate, Greenwood.  Express Grain Terminal in Greenwood will be receiving and shipping grain as normal per John Coleman. -- Jerry L. Singleton, MSU Extension agent.
  • North MS Grain Company in Batesville and Coldwater is currently accepting grain. -- Judd Gentry, MSU Extension agent.
  • Contrary to earlier reports that all elevators at Rosedale, Miss., were on hold and not taking grain, Dennis Copeland of DeBruce Grain reports: “We have NOT closed our doors to grain at anytime during this flood and do not intend to do so… we do not want our customers to experience any undue anxiety as we approach wheat harvest." For more information, contact Copeland at (877) 324-7488 or [email protected].
  • The two commercial elevators in Washington County -- Farmers Grain Terminal and Bunge Corp. -- will be able to take in wheat. Farmers Grain can ship out as of now. Bunge cannot ship out as of now. -- Lester Stephens, MSU Extension agent.
  • Bunge facilities in Rosedale, Greenville, Marks, Yazoo, and Greenville are open to take in wheat.
  • The access road to Bunge Mayersville went under water at 43 feet, Vicksburg. Valley Park Elevator will not be taking wheat. Magnolia Grain at Cary is not taking wheat. All wheat in both Issaquena and Sharkey Counties will have to go out of county to the north. -- Robert Martin, MSU Extension agent.
