Sub-irrigation could be plus for growers in suitable soils

Some Delta soils stay wet during the spring, interfering with field work and planting. When the rains stop, the water table is far below the root zone and yields suffer. USDA-NRCS area engineer John Hester talked about a way to address the problem using sub-irrigation at the first Delta States Irrigation Conference in Miner, Mo. The event attracted more than 100 farmers over a two-day period.
