Atrazine still benefitting farmers, drawing fire

Corn growers have learned a great deal about how to apply atrazine in the safest manner possible since the National Resources Defense Council first begin criticizing the compound. Richard Fawcett was a relatively new Extension weed scientist in Iowa when the first testing of atrazine was conducted in the 1970s and 80s. Fawcett, now a crop consultant in central Iowa, has continued to follow the atrazine issue and gave crop advisors an update on the herbicide at Iowa State University’s Integrated Crop Management Conference in Ames in December.
