Super Committee cuts or sequestration? Agriculture on horns of dilemma

The debt ceiling compromise passed by Congress and signed  by the president in early August creates a Select or “Super” Committee charged  with reducing the federal debt. Only one member – Sen. Max Baucus of Montana –  has any experience in agriculture, but the committee could very well write the  next farm bill when it decides on spending priorities for the next 10 years. Joe Shultz, senior economist with the Senate Ag Committee, discussed the  impact the super committee could have when he spoke to the American Cotton  Producers/ Cotton Foundation meeting in Corpus Christi, Texas.
