The next Norman Borlaug?

Hundreds of people have traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, for this week’s World Food Prize ceremonies and the Borlaug Dialogue that coincides with it.

The World Food Prize was created by Nobel Prize winner Norman Borlaug, a native of Iowa who died in September of 2009.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack gave the opening remarks at the Global Farmer Town Hall Meeting on Sustainable Agriculture and Biodiversity Practices, one of a number of side events for the World Food Prize. The Town Hall Meeting was held on the campus of Iowa State University and was attended by a number of students.

Vilsack talked about the choice of agriculture as a career field and Dr. Borlaug’s legacy.
