Governor backs new levee to avoid a return of 2011 Yazoo-Mississippi Delta flooding

The strength of the Mississippi Levee system was one of the great success stories of 2011. Despite some of the highest water levels in decades, the levees along the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers in Mississippi held. Unfortunately, one part of the Mississippi Delta was not protected by a levee. Gov. Phil Bryant discussed a plan to address that problem during his speech at the Delta Council annual meeting in Cleveland, Miss.
