Country of Origin rules modified

Reactions to revisions of the Country-of-Origin Labeling rules have been mixed -- both in the U.S. and in bordering nations.

Modifications to the Country of Origin Labeling rules would satisfy WTO requirements and strengthen the overall program, says USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack.

Reactions to the new rules have been mixed. The U.S. Cattlemen's Assn. and the National Wildlife Federation have expressed support, while Cargill and meat exporters in Canada and Mexico say the revisions will make labeling more complicated and costly.
