Eradication meetings

FARMERS IN regions 1A and 1B or the north Delta of Mississippi this week began discussing the upcoming referendum on the maintenance phase of the Boll Weevil Eradication Program at a series of meetings that will continue through July 31.

The Mississippi Boll Weevil Management Corp. has scheduled an Aug. 4-15 referendum on conducting the maintenance phase of the BWEP in regions 1A and 1B over the next 10 years. The first referendum failed to receive the required two-thirds majority of the votes cast in June.

The remaining meeting dates, locations and times are:

July 28 — Coahoma County, Coahoma County Country Club, Highway 61 (two miles south of Clarksdale), 6 p.m.

July 29 — Bolivar County, Bolivar County Extension Office, 406 N. Martin Luther King, 6 p.m.

July 31 — Washington County, Twin County Conference Center, Old Highway 61, 6 p.m.

Previous meetings were held in Tunica County, Quitman County, Tallahatchie County, Sunflower County, and Leflore County.
