Mississippi was the Spotlight State at this year’s Sunbelt Expo in Moultrie, Ga., but Mississippi wasn’t the only Mid-South state with a big presence at the 38th annual running of the show.
Nathan Reed, a fourth-generation farmer from Marianna, Ark.; represented his state, Allen Eubanks, a highly diversified farmer from Lucedale, Miss., his; and George Clay of Pelham, Tenn., his, in the Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year competition.
Danny Kornegay, farmer from Princeton, N.C., was named the winner of the $15,000 prize and free use of an AGCO tractor for a year that goes with the Southeastern Farmer of the Year.
Besides hundreds of exhibitors the Sunbelt Expo features field demonstrations of cotton, peanut, soybean and hay harvesting equipment on its 600 acres near Moultrie in south Georgia.
This year’s Expo also saw an appearance by Zippy Duvall, president of the Georgia Farm Bureau, who is running for national president of the organization following AFBF President Bob Stallman’s announcement he would not run for re-election.
