No funding for Upper Yazoo Project in president’s budget

The president's budget contains no funding for the Upper Yazoo Project or the Delta Headwaters Project in FY17.

Completion of the Upper Yazoo Project and its pumping station has been one of the major objectives for farmer-members of the Delta Council and other Mississippi organizations for decades.

But the executive budget for the Trump administration, which ran on a platform of rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, contains no funding for it the project or the Delta Headwaters Project, which also aims to reduce the risk of flooding in the Mississippi Delta.

Col. Michael C. Derosier, commander, Vicksburg District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, talked about the funding that is being budgeted for Vicksburg District projects in a report to the Mississippi River Commission, which met in Greenville, Miss. The hearing was one of several stops on the MRC’s 2017 High Water Inspection Trip..
