Mississippi Extension builds training program for auxin herbicides

Dan Reynolds has been conducting weed science research for 30-plus years, and he says he’s never seen such stringent application restrictions as those for the new Xtend and Enlist Duo herbicides for use on herbicide-tolerant cotton and soybeans.

But those restrictions will only work if farmers follow them. Dr. Reynolds and fellow Extension specialists Jason Bond, Darren Dodds and Trent Irby at Mississippi State University are putting together a training program to help growers use the new compounds correctly.

Dr. Reynolds, who holds the Edgar E. and Winifred B. Hartwig Endowed Chair in Soybean Agronomy at Mississippi State, talked about the program during the monthly meeting of the Memphis Ag Club at the Memphis, Tenn., Agricenter.
