RiceTec focusing on using more traits to benefit rice producers: Part I

Dario Bernacchi had only been working for RiceTec for three months when he spoke at the company's annual Field Day at its research center near Harrisburg, Ark., earlier this year.

But he sounded like someone who had been working in trait technology for 18 years (which he has). Bernacchi said RiceTec intends to ramp up its use of its own gene discoveries and others to help growers improve weed control, rice quality and yields.

This year's field day drew a large number of producers and industry professionals to hear the latest news from RiceTec about the company's new hybrids and its efforts to develop new hybrids that are resistant to different classes of chemistry.

That's one of the areas where Dr. Bernacchi, a graduate of Cornell University who formerly worked with Monsanto, will be working to bring new products to the RiceTec lineup.
