TruckWeight, Inc., has introduced Smart Scale, a wireless onboard weigh scale for trucks, tractors, and trailers with air suspensions. The scale is ideal for vehicles that haul grain, silage, fertilizers, and other agricultural goods where maximizing payload and reducing overweight violations mean greater productivity.
Smart Scale uses sensors to measure temperature and pressure changes in a vehicle's air suspension and relays this data to a handheld receiver using a low-powered, intrinsically safe radio transmitter.
The sensors produce an axle weight and gross vehicle weight measurement that's within 0.3 percent of the actual gross vehicle weight, or roughly 150 pounds.
Because it's wireless, Smart Scale lets you monitor gross and axle weights from up to 500 feet away: inside the cab, on the loader, or wherever it's safe and convenient. Smart Scale also is easy to retrofit to existing equipment. Installation typically takes 30 minutes for a standard five-axle tractor-trailer and requires no special tools or skills.
“For trucks that haul agricultural products, Smart Scale is an accurate, affordable way to meet payload targets, prevent overweight violations, and eliminate the complicated installation and maintenance associated with hardwired scales,” said Peter Panagapko, president of TruckWeight.
Smart Scale has just three components: the Smart Sensor with integrated antenna and 3/8-inch fittings; a tee fitting for the air line; and the wireless handheld receiver. The waterproof, shock-resistant, and non-corrosive housing requires no regular maintenance and the sensors use common AA batteries.
Smart Scale has a suggested list price of $550 for each sensor and $490 for the wireless receiver. It is available direct from TruckWeight or as a factory- installed or dealer-installed option at select truck and trailer manufacturers.
