INDIANAPOLIS – EPA has approved a Section 3 label for the use of Python WDG herbicide for postemergence control of teaweed or prickly sida in soybeans grown in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
Dow AgroSciences’ Python WDG, which contains the active ingredient flumetsulam, has been labeled for pre-emergence application on broadleaf weeds in soybeans. For postemergence control of teaweed, growers may apply 0.125 ounce of Python WDG per acre between the first and fifth trifoliate leaf stage of soybean growth and when teaweed has no more than two true leaves (2-inch maximum height). The product may be applied alone or in a tank mix combination with other labeled postemergence soybean herbicides.
For best results, growers should not cultivate treated fields within 10 days before or after application of Python WDG. Degree of control will depend on rate used, weed susceptibility and spray adjuvant, as well as growing conditions at the time of treatment. Liquid fertilizer should not be used as total carrier for the postemergence application.
If a pre-emergence treatment of Python WDG herbicide has also been applied to the field, growers must make sure that the maximum cumulative rate of 0.07 pounds per acre of flumetsulam per year is not exceeded.
Postemergence applications are not recommended at the cotyledon stage of plant growth or if rain is expected within six hours after application.
