Mississippi will host a national meeting in June aimed at increasing the economic value and consumer appeal of agricultural commodities.
The 12th annual National Value-Added Conference will take place June 27-29 at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi.
Hosts for the event include Mississippi State University’s Extension Service; the Department of Food Science, Nutrition, and Health Promotion; and the Department of Agricultural Economics.
Educators, entrepreneurs, producers and service providers working with value-added agriculture are the target audience, but anyone working in any area of agriculture will benefit from the conference.
Anna Hood, Extension professor and event organizer, said interest in adding value to farm commodities or resources through processing, packaging or marketing has grown over the years as farmers seek to increase their income.
“This conference will provide information to help farmers and entrepreneurs overcome some of the challenges they face,” Hood said.
Breakout sessions will address agritourism, local and regional food systems, bioenergy alternatives and business development related to value-added agriculture.
