2018 Acre of Hope slated for Wednesday, Jan. 24

Event in Jonesboro, Ark., in conjunction with the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas

On Wednesday, January 24, the agricultural community will join forces with the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas at the third annual Acre of Hope event. Guests will gather together for an evening of dinner, live auction and a sweepstakes drawing consisting of agricultural supplies and services and other fun, exciting items. Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to pledge an acre of their crop (cash equivalent) in support of the mission of the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.

According to the USDA, 15 percent of rural households -- or an estimated three million households -- are food insecure, meaning they don’t always know where they’ll find their next meal. Fifty-two percent of counties with the highest rates of food insecurity are in rural areas. Rural areas also account for 59 percent of counties with the highest rates of child food insecurity. The irony is that many of these food-insecure households are in the very rural and farm communities whose productivity feeds the world and provides low-cost wholesome food for American consumers.

Mary Beasley, Development Officer at the Food Bank stated, “In the three years that we have held this event at the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, support has grown tremendously. Last year, the event raised funds to support over 240,000 meals. The agricultural community in Northeast Arkansas has stepped up in a big way to help support our mission of battling hunger.”

The event will be held on Wednesday, January 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas. Tickets are $25. All proceeds from Acre of Hope benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas in its mission to provide hunger relief to people in need by raising awareness, securing resources and distributing food through a network of non-profit agencies and programs.
