Ranchers on Colorado’s Eastern Plains are desperate for hay for their cattle, the Colorado Department of Agriculture reports. “Most ranchers on the Eastern Plains graze their cattle for a good portion of the winter. The blanket of snow that has covered the plains makes this impossible now, and available hay supplies are dwindling rapidly,” said Terry Fankhauser, executive vice president of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association.
In response to the calls and requests they are getting from cattlemen in the area, the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association has developed a hay contact list on its website at http://cca.beef.org/.
Anyone with available hay is encouraged to send an e-mail to [email protected], including contact information, hay type, size/weight of bales, the amount of hay available, location, shipping options, and price. The information will be posted on the Web site as it comes in.
The cattlemen’s association is working with the Colorado Livestock Association and the Colorado Farm Bureau to secure drop-off locations for hay donations.
With several months of feeding before spring, ranchers in the blizzard area are concerned about their rapidly-dwindling hay supplies.
Anyone with available hay can contact CCA at (303) 431-6422 or Colorado Livestock Association at (970) 378-0500.
