Deere to help tell agriculture’s story

John Deere, a world leader in providing agricultural products and services, has stepped forward once again as a premier sponsor of National Ag Day, celebrated on the first day of spring, March 20, 2010. This year’s theme is American Agriculture: Abundant. Affordable. AMAZING.

The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) hosts the annual nationwide event to recognize agriculture’s contributions to America’s economy and culture. ACA expresses its gratitude for the company’s continued support and dedication to promoting the bounty and importance of American agriculture.

“John Deere has been an indispensable part of American agriculture’s history and continues to help producers find ways to be more effective and efficient,” says Jenny Pickett, President of the Agriculture Council of America. “We are very grateful for their participation and the heightened awareness their involvement brings to Ag Day.”

Ag Day was created to recognize — and celebrate — the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives. During National Ag Week, March 14-20, 2010, activities are held across the nation to educate all Americans, particularly young people, of the importance of American agriculture. Other high-profile events are held in Washington, D.C., to highlight agriculture’s impact among legislators and other leaders.

“Now more than ever, it is critically important to communicate the importance of U.S. agriculture,” says Barry Nelson, manager, media relations, John Deere. “The world’s population is expected to grow from 6 billion to 9 billion people by the year 2050. On top of this, a rising middle class in developing nations will require more nutritious, high-quality food. U.S. farmers will need to produce more crops for food, fiber, and fuel and will be challenged with limited resources, land, and water in the future. We encourage everyone in agriculture to help promote the Ag Day program and events.”

The National Ag Day program encourages every American to:

• Understand how food and fiber products are produced.

• Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.

• Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.

• Acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food and fiber industry.

National Ag Day is organized by the Agriculture Council of America. ACA is a non-profit organization composed of leaders in the agricultural, food and fiber community, dedicating its efforts to increasing the public's awareness of agriculture's role in modern society.
