Each year members of the National Cotton Council's Emerging Leaders Program class travel to the Cotton Council's headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., and to St. Louis and Washington, D.C. to learn how to be future industry leaders.
Part of their time in Memphis is spent learning how to field questions from the news media. Members of the agricultural media volunteer to conduct "live" interviews with each class member to help them learn the ins and outs of dealing with newspaper, radio and TV reporters.
During this year's training, Nick McMichen, a sixth-generation cotton producers was asked to discuss cotton and sustainability issues. Here's McMichen's response.
