New legislative efforts must protect farm bill, Rep. Crawford says

Cotton industry leaders are still looking for a way to provide Price Loss Coverage for cottonseed as an “other oilseed” under the Agricultural Act of 2014.

Rep. Rick Crawford, chairman of the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee of the House Ag Committee, says such a move carries risks if it reopens the farm bill.

Crawford, speaking at the National Cotton Council’s Mid-Year board of directors meeting in Memphis, Tenn., said that unless a suitable alternative – such as an appropriations bill can be found, enacting the “other oilseed” designation into the farm law may have to wait until 2018.
