A lot of politicians come to the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show in Memphis, Tenn. They shake a few hands, see an exhibit or two and then move on to the next event. Not Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue.
Perdue, the only USDA secretary to have visited the show in recent memory, spent more than two and a half hours touring the show on March 3 after giving a speech in which he announced that signup would begin for the Ginning Cost-share Program March 12 (see Perdue’s search for money pays off for cotton producers).
One of the reasons for the length of the tour was the number of Gin Show attendees who stopped to thank him for the announcement. Another was that Perdue seemed genuinely interested in learning about the new technology on display. And the secretary cannot walk by a child without speaking to them.
Here are some photos from Governor Perdue’s tour of the 2018 Mid-South Farm and Gin Show.
