Digital sign vandalism prompts reward offer at Memphis Agricenter

“Our fear is that some of the bullets could have gone through the billboard and could easily have hit a runner or one of our other guests on the property,” said John Charles Wilson, president of Agricenter International.

The digital sign for the Memphis, Tenn., Agricenter has been the target of felony vandalism again.

In May, 2015, the sign, which is located on Walnut Grove Road in East Memphis and is used to promote events at the Agricenter, was hit by 15 gunshots by someone driving east along Walnut Grove during the night. The vandalism was repeated in recent days.

“Our fear is that some of the bullets could have gone through the billboard and could easily have hit a runner or one of our other guests on the property,” said John Charles Wilson, president of Agricenter International.

The Shelby County Sherriff’s Office has been notified and sheriff’s deputies are investigating.  There is a $2,500 reward offered leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender.  Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-2274.  Callers can remain anonymous.

The Agricenter is a multi-purpose facility that includes part of the old Shelby County Penal Farm. Portions of the farm land are leased for research trials and demonstrations of new agricultural technology.
